Universal Orlando keeps Jurassic Park ride closed until December
AOL.co.uk first reported that Universal Orlando has extended the closure of Jurassic Park River Adventure, and Universal’s own listing now says the Islands of Adventure attraction will reopen on 17 December 2026 after scheduled maintenance.
That pushes the return of one of Islands of Adventure’s better-known water rides deeper into the holiday season. The practical effect is simple: guests planning a late-November or early-December visit will have one fewer headline attraction available in the park’s Jurassic Park area. Universal has not publicly explained why the refurbishment is taking longer.
What the closure means inside Islands of Adventure
Jurassic Park River Adventure sits in the Jurassic Park section of Universal Islands of Adventure, where Universal describes it as a water ride that starts with a river tour before the famous plunge. The page also highlights the ride’s 85-foot drop, which helps explain why its absence is felt so keenly by families looking for a classic Universal splash-down attraction.
The closure does not shut the whole land. Other dinosaur-themed experiences nearby remain available, including Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Camp Jurassic and Raptor Encounter, so this is a ride-by-ride disruption rather than a full blackout for the area. Even so, River Adventure is a substantial part of the land’s mix, especially for visitors who want a slower-paced water ride alongside the bigger thrill coasters.
What happens next
Universal’s park-hours page also lists Jurassic Park River Adventure in its temporary-closures section, and the company notes that dates are subject to change. For now, the next milestone is whether the 17 December reopening holds. If Universal revises the schedule again, the official ride and park-hours pages will be the clearest place to watch.
