Blumhouse comes to a familiar Universal stage

Universal Orlando has announced a refreshed version of its long-running Horror Make-Up Show, and the news first surfaced on r/UniversalOrlando, which pointed fans towards the official reveal. The updated production is officially called Universal Horror Make-Up Show featuring Blumhouse, bringing the horror studio into one of Universal Studios Florida’s best-known live attractions.

The show will remain a live experience, but Universal says it will now take guests behind the scenes of how special effects artists brought horror films to life. Its scope stretches across more than 100 years of Hollywood horror movie effects, from Universal’s classic monsters to modern Blumhouse titles.

A show built around horror effects

That is a natural fit for a venue that has always centred on makeup, prosthetics and practical effects. Universal’s Hollywood area page still describes the current attraction as a behind-the-scenes look at the makeup and special effects behind Hollywood’s strangest creatures, and Inside Universal noted earlier this year that the long-running show was being closed in May 2026 for a reimagining. The new title suggests Universal is keeping that basic idea intact while widening the reach to cover more of its horror history.

Universal’s own description makes the connection between the old and the new very clear. The updated show will reference the studio’s classic monsters as well as Blumhouse, which points to a production that is meant to bridge Universal’s vintage horror icons with newer screen scares rather than replace one with the other. For fans of the original show, that should at least preserve the attraction’s core identity, even as the theming shifts.

What remains unconfirmed for now

Universal has not announced an opening date yet, and Attractions Magazine says additional details have not been revealed. For now, the confirmed pieces are straightforward: a live show, a Blumhouse tie-in, and a focus on more than a century of horror movie special effects.

For Orlando regulars, the bigger takeaway is that one of Universal Studios Florida’s signature live shows is staying in place, but being reshaped for a newer era of horror. The next milestone is the promised wave of extra details, and that is the part fans will be watching most closely.
