Fyre Drill joins Universal Orlando’s 2027 downtime
Inside the Magic first reported that Universal Orlando has scheduled Fyre Drill at Universal Epic Universe for a short refurbishment from 25 January to 4 February 2027. This is an Orlando update rather than a Bedford one, but it is still useful context for understanding how Universal handles routine attraction downtime across a multi-park resort. Even the newest part of the operation has to make room for maintenance, and guests planning early 2027 trips will need to factor that into their day.
That closure sits within a broader 2027 maintenance picture for Universal Orlando. The resort’s current calendar shows four closures in all: Fyre Drill at Epic Universe, Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey at Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay’s scheduled maintenance window, which Universal currently lists as reopening on or before 1 April 2027. A wider resort calendar, not just one ride
The newly added Islands of Adventure dates matter because they affect a different corner of the resort entirely. Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges is currently scheduled to be unavailable from 4 January to 2 February 2027, and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is listed for 8 to 19 February 2027. One is a water ride, which makes a winter refurbishment window fairly predictable, while the other is one of the resort’s headline indoor attractions, so early 2027 visitors could face ride downtime spread across more than one park rather than in a single area.
Fyre Drill itself sits inside How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk. Universal’s safety and accessibility guide describes it as a water journey in a touring boat and warns that riders will get wet, possibly soaked, while Universal’s park map places the attraction in the Berk land at Epic Universe. That makes the January timing easier to understand: a soaking water ride is exactly the kind of attraction Universal is likely to take offline when fewer guests want a drenching.
What happens next
For now, the only confirmed information is what appears on Universal’s calendar, and the company says refurbishment dates are subject to change without notice. Anyone planning an early 2027 visit will want to keep checking the official schedule as the dates get closer, especially if Fyre Drill is on their must-ride list. If Universal alters the timetable, that change will come from the resort itself rather than from any outside speculation.
