Universal United Kingdom Resort now has an official name, and the timing matters because the project has moved from planning paperwork into on-site work near Bedford. Orlando ParkStop first reported the name update, which sits alongside the wider permit trail and early construction activity now visible around the site.
The company and government now use Universal United Kingdom Resort as the formal name. Official material says the resort will include a world-class theme park, a 500-room hotel and a retail, dining and entertainment complex, while ministers say the wider project is expected to deliver 28,000 jobs between construction and operation and nearly £50 billion in economic benefit.
Paddington and Potter speculation
The latest update also folds in the recurring fan chatter around Paddington and Harry Potter. Those names remain rumours, not confirmations: Universal has only said the resort will contain several immersive lands, without naming the brands or stories behind them.
That distinction matters for Bedfordshire readers because the resort’s eventual mix of lands will shape what kind of visitors it draws, and how strongly it connects with the surrounding area. For now, the only firm point is that the official name is settled, while the line-up inside the park is still unconfirmed.
Permits and site work
The permit side is no longer theoretical either. Planning permission was granted by Special Development Order on 15 December 2025 and came into force on 12 January 2026. The government said in June that enabling works were already in progress, and Bedford Borough Council says work on site started in 2026, with opening planned for 2031.
Universal’s own project updates now include road closures and traffic management around Manor Road, Broadmead Road, Woburn Road and the routes serving Wixams station. The resort says detailed construction management plans will follow for each phase of construction, which shows how the project is beginning to affect access as well as the site itself.
What happens next
The next confirmed milestone is continued site preparation, followed by more detailed construction phases. The main theme park line-up remains unconfirmed, and that is the biggest question still hanging over the project after this latest naming update.
Update: 12 August 2026
Orlando ParkStop has added to the picture around the new park, with fresh rumours pointing to possible Harry Potter and Paddington attractions. The official name is now confirmed as Universal United Kingdom Resort, and the project is still being presented as being on course for a 2031 opening.
There are also new permit filings and construction updates linked to the resort, suggesting that work continues to move forward behind the scenes as planning develops.
