Travelling to Universal United Kingdom Resort from the North? Here’s a practical guide to driving and rail routes from Manchester, Birmingham, the North East and Scotland.

Universal United Kingdom Resort sits in the middle of the country at Kempston Hardwick, just south of Bedford — which is good news for the millions of fans travelling down from the North. Whether you’re coming from Manchester, Birmingham, the North East or Scotland, here’s how to plan the journey by road and rail.
Bedfordshire is well connected to the motorway network. The resort is being served by major road upgrades, including a new junction and slip roads connecting directly to the A421 Bedford bypass, which links to the M1 at Junction 13. National Highways has also been working on improvements to the M1 J13 area to handle resort traffic. For most northern drivers, the M1 will be the spine of the journey.
Plan around peak times. A major new attraction drawing eight million visitors a year will generate significant traffic, so aim to arrive early and check live travel updates before setting off.
Rail is an excellent option from the North, and it may well be the smarter choice. A new station at Wixams will serve the resort, linked by a short shuttle, and Bedford sits on the Midland Main Line and the fast trains from the North.
For anyone north of Birmingham, a day trip is tight — you’d spend more time travelling than enjoying the park. A 500-room on-site hotel is planned, alongside plentiful accommodation across Bedford and the surrounding area. Turning the visit into an overnight or weekend break lets you enjoy the park properly, with early entry potential and zero day-of travel stress.
From the North, weigh the long drive against fast rail links and consider staying over. We’ll keep this guide updated with confirmed train times, shuttle details and parking costs as Universal UK’s transport plans are finalised ahead of the 2031 opening.
