Universal Destinations & Experiences has appointed Luc Bondar as its new chief brand and commercial officer, replacing Alice Norsworthy, who plans to retire at the end of 2026. The move, first reported by Blooloop, matters beyond the company’s existing parks because Universal is also the group behind the planned Universal United Kingdom Resort near Bedford, which the government says is due to open in 2031.

Bondar will lead Universal’s brand and commercial organisation, a remit that includes using the company’s brand, products and experiences to build more personalised guest relationships while drawing on technology and data to drive growth and loyalty. His expanded scope also covers brand strategy, creative and marketing, demand generation, sales, pricing, revenue management, commercial operations and analytics.

Bondar arrives after a long run of growth at Universal

Norsworthy’s exit ends a long period in which she helped shape the growth and evolution of Universal’s business. According to the company, that included transforming Universal Orlando into a destination resort, expanding the group’s global portfolio, and most recently opening Universal Epic Universe. She has held leadership roles with Universal for more than 18 years.

Bondar joins from United Airlines, where he served as chief operating officer and president of MileagePlus. In that role, he oversaw brand and consumer marketing, customer growth, personalisation, digital capabilities, analytics and strategic partnerships.

Universal says he brings extensive experience in marketing, loyalty and commercial operations across travel, technology, financial services and retail. That mix suggests the company wants a leader who can connect guest-facing brand work with the commercial side of the business as it continues to expand.

Why the change matters for Bedfordshire

The appointment is relevant to Bedfordshire because Universal United Kingdom Resort remains the company’s major UK project, and the government says it is set to open in 2031. A senior brand and commercial chief will help shape how Universal positions that destination, even though the resort is still several years from opening.

Bondar is due to begin his role on 19 October, giving Universal time to complete the handover before Norsworthy steps down at the end of 2026. For now, that makes this a leadership change with a long runway rather than a sudden reshuffle, but it is still one to watch as the company’s UK plans move forward.
