Long queues are the bane of every theme park visit. Universal's Express Pass system offers a solution: pay a premium and skip to the front of participating attraction queues. It is a popular add-on at some Universal parks.

How Universal Express Pass works

Express Pass is an add-on ticket that grants one-time or unlimited front-of-line access to participating rides, shows, and experiences. Guests enter a dedicated Express queue that bypasses the regular standby line, typically reducing wait times from 60+ minutes to under 15. Two tiers are usually available: Express Pass (one use per attraction) and Express Pass Unlimited (unlimited uses throughout the day).

Expected pricing

Express Pass pricing is dynamic — it fluctuates based on park attendance predictions. Prices vary by date and availability. These prices are in addition to regular park admission.

Is it worth the money?

For many guests, absolutely. A family of four visiting on a busy summer Saturday could wait 4–6 hours in queues across a full day. Express Pass reclaims that time for additional rides, shows, dining, and relaxation. Whether it is worth buying depends on the day and how much value you place on shorter waits. For a once-in-a-lifetime trip, most families conclude that it is.

The hotel Express Pass perk

At Universal Orlando, guests staying at Premier-tier on-site hotels receive complimentary Express Unlimited passes for the duration of their stay. This perk alone can be worth hundreds of pounds and effectively makes Premier hotel stays a better value proposition than cheaper hotels plus purchased Express Passes. Virtual queue alternatives

Universal also operates virtual queue systems for its newest and most popular attractions. Instead of physically standing in line, guests reserve a time slot via the park's mobile app and return when their window arrives. Universal also uses virtual line systems for select attractions via its app. Universal may use virtual queues for some attractions alongside other queue systems.
