Manor Road closure now runs to late November
Bedford Today first reported that a planned 10-week closure for Universal United Kingdom Resort work has been extended by another seven weeks. The project’s own community update now lists Manor Road as closed to through traffic from 27 July to 27 November 2026, with the route kept shut while site stabilisation and enabling works continue.
That matters because Manor Road is part of the resort’s wider access plan rather than a stand-alone road issue. The government’s planning statement says the first phase of the development to 2031 includes changes to Manor Road, new highway access to the A421 and additional platforms at Wixams station, so this closure sits inside the transport works being built for the scheme.
Why the road matters to the build
The Special Development Order for the resort is in force from 12 January 2026, and Bedford Borough Council says works on site started in 2026 with opening planned for 2031. The council describes Universal United Kingdom Resort as the first-ever Universal-branded theme park and resort in the UK, and says the project is expected to create 20,000 construction jobs and 8,000 permanent jobs once operational.
The official project page places the Manor Road closure alongside other traffic-management measures already in place or due to start, including stop/go control on Broadmead Road and three-way signals at the Woburn Road/Broadmead Road junction. It also says further traffic management on Manor Road will be needed after 27 November, with more information to follow once those details are confirmed.

For now, the confirmed position is straightforward: Manor Road remains closed for through traffic until 27 November 2026, and construction on Universal United Kingdom Resort continues. The next change will depend on the further traffic-management notice the project publishes for the road after that date.
