Just how large is the Universal United Kingdom Resort? Here’s the acreage, expected visitor numbers and how Bedford compares to Universal’s other parks.

When people first hear that Universal is building a theme park in Bedford, the next question is always about scale: how big is it, really? The answer is genuinely enormous — a resort designed from the ground up to become one of Europe’s premier tourist destinations. Here’s a clear breakdown of the numbers.
The Universal United Kingdom Resort is being built on a former brickworks site at Kempston Hardwick, just south of Bedford. Reporting has put the site at around 476 to 500 acres — a vast footprint that gives Universal room for a full theme park, a 500-room hotel and an integrated retail, dining and entertainment district, with space to expand in future phases.
The resort is projected to attract more than eight million visitors a year. To put that in perspective, that would immediately rank it among the most-visited theme parks in Europe, comfortably ahead of the UK’s existing major parks and competing with the continent’s biggest names.
One of the most important things about the Bedford site is the headroom it offers. Universal’s resorts are rarely static — Orlando has grown into a multi-park empire over decades. The size of the Bedford land, combined with Universal’s commitment to ongoing capital investment in the years after opening, suggests Bedford is conceived as a long-term destination that will expand well beyond its initial footprint.
The numbers behind the project match its physical size. Comcast NBCUniversal has committed to investing over £5 billion during construction, with the project estimated to contribute close to £50 billion to the UK economy by 2055 and support tens of thousands of jobs. This is one of the largest leisure and tourism investments in British history.
Universal United Kingdom Resort is not a modest addition to the UK theme park scene — it is a continental-scale destination on a roughly 476–500 acre site, built for eight million-plus visitors a year and designed to grow. When it opens in 2031, it will instantly become one of the biggest theme parks in Europe.
